Back from the dead

No, it’s no joke.  The prodigal blogger has returned.  In the last few months I was teaching full time and so I had zero time for reading or never mind writing about reading.  But now, the lady I was filling in for is back from her maternity leave and so I have returned to the supply teacher list and therefore have read 16 books so far this year.  My goal for the past few years has been to average out 1 book per week for a total of 52 books in a year.  I always come close but there’s always something that gets in the way.  When I was in grade school and highschool, I went through books like crazy but now it always seems like there’s other things I need to be doing instead.  Then in University, as an English major, I only seemed to have the time to read books that I had to read for my courses.

Anyway, since then, the stack(s) of unread books got higher and higher with books recommended by friends, bloggers, and professors and I can’t seem to stop myself from buying more and more books even though I think I have over 60 books piled up beside my bookshelves.  So my New Years resolution is to get back to blogging ( I just made the resolution today so it’s ok that I’m late).  Hopefully I can get keep it up this time….it seems to me that I may have written that before on this blog.

Anyway, I’ve just finished Philippa Gregory’s The Other Boleyn Girl and really enjoyed it.  This is one of the first historical fiction novels I’ve read and I wasn’t disappointed.  I have the Josephine B. Trilogy but haven’t started it yet.  I’m not sure if I want to see the movie version but I really like Scarlett Johansson so I probably will.Since I don’t have to plan classes or mark tests or essays or fill out report card I seem to have more time for reading.  I just started Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park.  I find it’s a little slow going.  I loved Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Northanger Abbey and I had heard that this was what Austen considered to be the favorite of all of her stories so I thought I’d give it a try.  I’m about 150 pages into it.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  I swear I’ll write again soon!  I promise…I’m not just saying that…..
